In addition to its regional companies, the Airgas family of companies also includes
Airgas Safety, one of the largest U.S. distributors of personal protective equipment
and supplies; and Red-D-Arc Welderentals®, the leading welder rental company in
North America.
Airgas is also the leading U.S. distributor of medical gases and related product
through Airgas Puritan Medical divisions in every region. Airgas has more than 280
registered medical gas fill plants and more than 675 distribution locations nationwide
offering a full range of medical gases for respiratory therapy in liquid and compressed
gas forms. It also distributes home respiratory therapy equipment, medical gas equipment,
and related supplies to hospitals, home health care distributors, physicians’ practices,
original medical equipment manufacturers, and other medical businesses.
The Gas Operations Division includes Airgas Carbonic, the leading manufacturer of
liquid carbon dioxide in the Southeast U.S. and Airgas Dry Ice, the leading distributor
of dry ice (the solid form of carbon dioxide). Dry ice, which is used in a variety
of applications, including food freezing and refrigeration, is distributed through
retail outlets under the Penguin BrandÔ
Dry Ice name. Airgas Nitrous Oxide is the largest U.S. producer of nitrous oxide
used in industry, food, and medical applications. In June 2005, Airgas acquired
the industrial ammonia distribution business of LaRoche Industries and now operates
the business with 24 distribution centers, as Airgas Specialty Products.
